Capt. Luke Vandenberg
Luke is a born and raised Michigan angler who grew up surrounded by fishing. He spent his younger years chasing bass and panfish whenever he could and it was clear he was obsessed with fishing from an early age. Eventually in high school, he began gravitating towards the more prized and trophy species like trout, steelhead, and salmon around the state. Once he received a driver's license and gained access to a vehicle, more fisheries became accessible and if he wasn't in school, you could find him on the water.
At the age of 16, Luke was introduced to the fly fishing industry and began working at Gates Au Sable Lodge during the summers in northern Michigan. While working there, he began to notice the abundance of guides that would migrate from Michigan to Alaska for the summers, and come back with pictures of incredible fish.
After talking with a few local guides about Alaska he was sold and knew he had to experience it. As the days of high school came to an end, Luke packed up a week after graduation and headed to Alaska and has spent the past 5 seasons guiding in the Bristol Bay region. He has brought his passion for guiding from Alaska and now shares the information he’s learned on his favorite waters in Michigan.

Capt. Dakota Mack
Dakota is a fishing guide to the core. He loves collecting information on fish, but not nearly as much as he enjoys helping others learn to catch them. Dakota started his career at 16, as a dishwasher at a lodge in Alaska. That season, getting to tag along on big group trips got him hooked. He has been working in the industry ever since. From Northern Michigan to Alaska to Patagonia, guiding is now his full time job.
Dakota rows a Smithfly raft, and his preferred methods of fishing are both centerpin and fly fishing. Off the river, Dakota enjoys catching up with family and reading anything fishing related, especially enjoying John Gierach and Don Thomas. You can check him out on Instagram @capt.dakotamack or on his blog tagged below.
